Distinguished Alumni Award

In 2005 the Alfred State College Alumni Association initiated the Distinguished Alumni Award to recognize an alumnus/a whose achievements and recognition have reflected honor on his/her alma mater, chosen field, community or region, and who has demonstrated an understanding of his/her role as an intentional learner.

The criteria for the Distinguished Alumni Award are:

  • The recipient must be an alumnus/alumna of Alfred State. The recipient has made significant contributions in his/her chosen field.
  • The recipient has exhibited current or past service or involvement to the Alfred State community.
  • The recipient has exhibited current or past service or involvement to his/her community or region.
  • The recipient has demonstrated his/her understanding of the intentional learner's role in society. Through discussion, critical analysis, and introspection, intentional learners come to understand their roles in society and accept active participation. They help society shape its ethical values and live by those values.

Nominations are accepted from alumni of Alfred State. The deadline for nominations is June 30. The Nominating Committee of the Alumni Board, representing the Alfred State Alumni Association, will recommend to the vice president of Institutional Advancement each year's recipient. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will make a final recommendation to the president of Alfred State for his/her acceptance. Awards are generally presented in the fall.
