After five seasons at the helm of the Alfred State College volleyball program, Gene Doorley has the Lady Pioneers heading in the right direction. The Blue and Gold are 106-55 (.658 winning percentage) in his five years and have made four straight appearances in the Region III Division III Tournament. The Lady Pioneers had not been in the Regional Tournament since the early 1990s.

In the past two years, Doorley has led the Blue and Gold to a 68-9 record (.883 winning percentage).  During this run, the Lady Pioneers earned back-to-back #1 seeds in the Region III Division III Tournament, claimed seven regular season tournament titles and the Region III Championship in 2007, been ranked in the top ten of the NJCAA Division III poll, and ended the college's 30-year quest for a trip to the National Championship. 

Following the 2006 season Doorley was named Region III Division III Coach of the Year and the AVCA's NJCAA Northeast Region Coach of the Year.  He repeated as the AVCA's NJCAA Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2007 and was also named the NJCAA Division III District A Coach of the Year.

Doorley also coached the program's first two-time NJCAA All-American, Brianne McMahon (Honorable Mention in 2006, 1st team in 2007).  He also had two players named All-American in the same year for the first time in school history in 2007 (McMahon and Elaina Braun: both 1st team selections).

Doorley joined the Alfred State College staff in 2002 after spending five years as the head coach at Alfred University. During his tenure the Saxons advanced to the State Championship four times, ECAC Championship, and the NCAA Division III Championship. Doorley has collected the most wins in Alfred University History.

Doorley earned an Associate Degree from Alfred State College and his Bachelor Degree in Fitness and Health from SUNY Cortland. Doorley later went on to St. Bonaventure and earned his teaching certification in Physical Education. Doorley participated in volleyball at both Cortland and Bonaventure.

Doorley also directs and instructs several volleyball camps throughout New York and Pennsylvania. In addition to his coaching duties Doorley is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, CSCS and runs the fitness center at Alfred State.

He lives in Hornell with his wife, Michele, son, Matt and daughter, Tayghan.
