The wait for the Alfred State College football team to play on campus is nearly over as the Pioneers are working on final preparations for Saturday's 2008 season opener versus Stevens Tech (Lancaster, PA). Saturday's 3 p.m. kickoff will mark the first football game played on the college's new athletic complex and the first game in the programs 13-year history to be played on campus.

The Alfred State College football team will play on campus for the first time in program history in 2008 and the Pioneers hope to make some noise in the Northeast Football Conference. Mick Caba (9th season, 36-44) and his coaching staff believe that an added emphasis on size and speed will pay dividends.

The 2008-09 Alfred State College athletic season kicks off this week as preseason camps open in preparation for the fall seasons. Football, volleyball, men's & women's soccer, and baseball will all report to campus and begin practice by Sunday while the cross country team will begin practicing on Tuesday.

Alfred State College sophomore football players John Chisolm (Trenton, NJ) and Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) have been named NJCAA All-Americans. Chisolm was named a second team defensive back while Septh was named an honorable mention wide receiver.

Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury), John Chisolm (Trenton, NJ), and Calvin Corbin (Winslow, NJ) were named to the 1st team while Vince DiMarco (Webster Thomas) and Nick Monroe (Irondequoit) were named 2nd team.

The Triumphant Sports Bowl will feature 55 players from NJCAA schools taking on 55 players from California Community College Athletic Association schools in Mesa, AZ.

The Alfred State College football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Nassau CC bounced back and turned things around en route to a 47-14 victory on Saturday. The loss ends the Pioneeers season with a 3-7 record while the Lions end the season with a 7-3 record.
