International Student Application Process

Complete all steps below.  Print off all forms and mail originals to:

Part 1 - International Application Form(pdf) - requests information on student and educational background.

Part 2 - Autobiographical Essay(pdf) - an essay, written in English, explaining why the student wishes to study at Alfred State College, including reasons for selected field of study, work and schooling experiences related to the field, and plans for the future.

Part 3 - English Proficiency Report(pdf) - requests information on English background. Also requests official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores. A TOEFL score of 500 (173 on the computer exam) is required unless the student's native language is English. Results from the IELTS or STEP EIKEN exam may be substituted for the TOEFL exam. (Please note that Alfred State College offers an ESL program during the academic year and summer sessions.)

Part 4 - International Student Financial Statement(pdf) - seeks financial information. Two academic scholarships are available for students who qualify. No other financial aid is available, and, therefore, international students need to be able to cover tuition, room & board and other costs.

The completed application should be returned to the Office of International Education with the following:

1. Certified English translations of secondary school grade reports. This translation should include the courses completed, grades received, and proof of graduation.
2. Original bank statements as verification of the international student financial statement.
3. A $40 (U.S. funds) non-refundable application fee.
4. Two reference letters from teachers you have had.

Once an international student is accepted, an I-20 form is mailed with the acceptance letter to allow the student to apply for the a student visa.
