Does Alfred State College offer athletic scholarships?

Alfred State College has limited scholarships available. The availability of these scholarships are based on the division of the NJCAA that each sport is participating in. Currently limited scholarships are available in baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, and lacrosse.

What is the NJCAA?

Alfred State College is a member of the NJCAA, National Junior College Athletic Association. The NJCAA is the sister organization to the NCAA and sponsors two-year athletic programs throughout the United States. Just like the NJCAA breaks up sports into Division I, II, III similar to the NCAA. Student-Athletes at the NJCAA level have two years of eligibility in each sport they participate in. What kind of athletic facilities does Alfred State have?

We are very proud of the athletic facilities. The athletic department is located in the Orvis Activities Center. Inside Orvis is the new refurbished gymnasium, a state-of-the art fitness center, a six-lane swimming pool, locker rooms, and an athletic training room. Outside of Orvis you will find the college's new baseball and softball fields, a soccer/lacrosse field, a six lane track, and practice fields for all outdoor sports. A new athletic facility is currently being built featuring field turf, an eight lane track, lights, bleachers, and a press box. The facility will be the new home for Pioneer football, soccer, lacrosse, and track and field.

Where do student athletes go after Alfred State?

The Alfred state athletic department has had great success in helping student-athletes continue thier collegiate athletic and academic careers. Former Alfred State student athletes have participated at the NCAA Division I, II, and III level and at NAIA institutions. Former athletes have played at Kansas University, the University of Arkansas, the University of Buffalo, and Delaware State University just to name a few. Former Alfred State College athletes have also played professional baseball, football, and competed in national road racing circuits.

Who can play at Alfred State College?

Any student at Alfred State can be a part of an athletic team. Open tryouts are held in each sport, interested athletes should contact the coach of that sport. Vocational students and bachelor degree students are also eligible for participation for two years in each sport. There are academic eligibility guidelines that all student-athletes must meet.
